Default Wooden Yard Sticks

Does anyone else remember when they used to be handed out free as advertising pieces?

I just checked the Jo-Ann web site - they have two available - one for $4.99 and one for $6.99.

As my mother and I were leaving a hardware store my mom picked one up and out the door she went. I told her she had to pay and she put it back! No longer free at that time.

Hardware stores used to give them out all the time. Not anymore!

before i moved, i had a long door as my cutting table and my husband had put three yard sticks on the front edge. Great for measuring.

I have one 3 ft one and one 4 ft "yardstick" that were both freebies. I haven't seen any free yardsticks in ages.

However, one of our clients gave out plastic back scratchers last year. I hadn't seen those in years either.

I like to collect them when I see them at flea markets. Great old advertising pieces.

It was a surprise to me how much they cost, when I told my daughter they used to be free at the hardware stores, even drug stores, you only paid for metal ones. (My dad had a couple of those, which I failed to take when we were cleaning out the house.)

Dime stores and fabric stores would give out thimbles with their names on it.
