I made a couple of these about 40 years ago. Making the yo-yo's were as addictive as making hexagons. We embroidered the faces. And I also remember having one as a child back in the med-late 50's.

I like the idea of getting washable markers and letting the kids paint the faces.

It's the strangest thing, but my granddaughter has always been absolutely terrified of dolls! Now that she's older and can explain it, she says that the way they open and close their eyes always freaked her out! Wonder what she would think of one like this? Hmm.....
