What astounding beings humans are. How did anyone ever think of this? I love simple, cheap solutions. Thanks, Ditter.

How about something to keep wasps/hornets away? They are always trying to get in my house.

This didn't work for us. I hung several around our rabbit enclosure to keep the flies away from the rabbits (flies can be deadly to rabbits). I found flies liked to land on the bags to rest their wings. ugh.

I'll have to try this. Loved the 'big spender' comment!

We were at a restaurant this summer and I asked the waitress why there was a plastic bag with water and pennies hanging by the door. She replied that it kept the flies away. Thought that was weird. But reading the above, it works!

Tried this at our ranch is west Texas, we had lots of flies on the porch. At that time, I had heard of hanging the bags of water...didn't know about the pennies part.....IT DID NOT WORK! In fact, the flies landed on the bag...probably because they were thirsty. Terrible drought in west Texas....I will try it again with the pennies.
So far not working in TX

Wow I will definitely try this! Just came home from our cottage......we sat with fly sweaters in our hands, getting those beasts....sometimes! To kill the fruit flies, I put a little leftover wine or even vinegar in a small ramekin or glass, cover it with plastic wrap, take a fork and punch a few holes in the wrap. They are attracted to the liquid, crawl in, can't get back out. Our cottage is at Lake Huron, and there are tons of flies, so I'm thinking several baggies....one at each entrance? Thanks for this tip!!!
