thank you so much everyone
health issues all sorted (fingers crossed) large cutting mat is now on the shopping list
will see how I go - hoping the sampler quilt book turns up soon - when I see it I will know what colours I want to use
I do wonder that it might be like in one solid colour (now thinking about it today) but will most likely keep costs down and use the black and whites I have then I will have more money for equipment
such a warm welcome -

Welcome back..... also from Michigan. It's good to hear that you have some vintage machines. Check out the vintage group here. We love all our sewing ladies and tinker with them all the time. I don't have a 201 yet but am looking for one. I do have a 127, 15-91, 101, 99, 4 FWs, 3 Vikings, and elna .... oh, and a hand crank that I haven't cleaned up yet. I love and use my vintage machines more than the fancy expensive one that I bought 12 or so years ago.
As far as equipment, it sounds like you're ready with the basics. I also would suggest a 60mm cutter to use with your new larger mat. I find that I use the 60mm most.... it doesn't get dull as fast due to the larger size and I can cut through several layers if I choose.
Happy Quilting!
