Welcome from WV. I can't help you with "quilt as you go" question, as I have not tried that yet, but if you go to either "search" at the top of the board home page, or down in the lists, try tutorials and see if someone hasn't posted a tute on quilt as you go. Hope you find the info, if not, someone on here will respond with the correct information for you.

Welcome from Missouri. I also have an expensive Babylock embroidery machine. I find that I still use my very old Kenmore and my old Singer for making quilt tops. That way I don't have to take the embroidery unit off the Babylock. I can embroider and sew at the same time.
