Welcome, Alice Marie! You have come to a great place for information and inspiration. I hope you'll enjoy your quilt-making adventures. When I decided to learn to quilt, I started with a little booklet by Marti Michell (not sure if her last name has one L or two) called "Quilting for People Who Don't Have Time to Quilt." I learned all the basics and made my first two quilts from that little book. After that I picked up tips from lots of places. Once you get started, your learning will snowball.
I agree with the advice to start with a simple project first and get familiar with the basics, then move on to the tie project after you have done a couple of simple quilts.
By the way, I live in Georgia. I was transplanted to Memphis Tennessee for nearly a year in 1981 (a lifetime ago!), then came back to Georgia. Again, welcome!
