Thank you so much! I have already seen alot of very helpful tutorials here. I do have a question though, is it ok to use flannel as the batting? if not why?

Hello from PA. First thing to do is learn how to post pictures so we can all see your projects and cheer you on! And with three little ones your task is to find the time! Have fun

Flannel, I never thought about it.

Are you hand quilting or machine ? It would make a very thin, almost summer weight quilt. I don't know why not. Anything you can think of to do is okay. Try experimenting with a small sample sandwich 12" square top piece, flannel and backing piece. Quilt some lines on it either by hand or machine and see if you like it! I do samples like this for every thing I want to try and it gives me a good indication if it will work or not. It is all an expiriment!

    peace

Welcome and Wash!!! The flannel that is - wash and dry it - maybe even more than once as it shrinks really bad.

Bonnie, I think flannel is a wonderful weight batting for a summer quilt. As already suggested, be sure to prewash and dry; flannel shrinks like crazy.
I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.

Thank you so much! I am currently working on a mini quilt it was supposed to be 16" square but i did mess it up a little so it is turning out to be 14" square and I am trying the flannel which so far feels good. I am currently trying to put my threads in, which I think means the actual quilting part.

Hello Bonnie, and welcome to the Board from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I used flannel on the back of a quilt I make for a co-worker's husband; it find maybe because it was just a lap quilt.
