Hi everyone, I'm new to the group. Actually new to the sewing machine too. My mother in law gave me a 1970s kenmore solid state sewing machine model 566-19142. I absolutely love it. Only problem I have is I've never used one. I learned by hand. Hopefully you all will be helpful if I may ask a strange question.

Welcome from New York state! My first machine was a kenmore too, from my MIL! Used it for close to 20 years. Perfect for straight stitching, which is what most of piecing is all about!

Welcome from Southern California!!!
It sounds like she gave you a good hard working machine to learn on, everyone here loves to help whenever we can.

Welcome from Southern California. I had home economics in 7th grade and learn to sew from my Grandmother. Take your time because in fact, it is a power tool. No question is too dumb. Just remind us you are a newbie. I hope you find the inspiration that I do from this site. Just one hint, don't make your first quilt a king size. I did!
