Hello from Missouri

Welcome from Texas. Mary, I'm so glad you joined this quilting board. There are so many helpful people here so don't be shy & please ask as many questions as you want. The answers will not only help you but will also help many of us. Learn how to post pictures & let us see what you start making. I would suggest you start on something small. It will also be fun if you save the first thing you make because you can always look back on it in the future & see the progress you make along the way. Most important....have fun!

Hello and welcome Mary!
I started quilting when I was 17 and a senior in high school, that was some 40 years ago now. I don't come from a quilting tradition, it was just something I wanted to do and was rather intimidated by the little old quilting ladies -- one of which I have become We are nothing to fear and I think most of us are delighted to have beginners of all ages.
I hope you are able to find a group, some things are so much easier to simply show than try and describe, but we have some great people on this board who do their best. In my own small group, at 58 I'm the baby of the group, closer to daughter age than the rest of the group.

There is a guild called Nighttime Needlers and you can find it on facebook. Also Lees Summit has Nimble Thimbles. Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival is being held June 13, 14, 15 where there will be lots of guilds represented and I'm sure you will find lots of info there. They too have online info.

Hi Mary, and Welcome from Southeast Missouri. Do you know how far you are from Missouri Star Quilting Co? They have free tutorials on line, and a fantastic group of fabric stores in Hamilton, MO. (Or so I've been told--not made it there yet, myself)
