Hi, my name is Chrystal and I live in South Africa. I am a total newbie when it comes to quilting, but I am busy with my first one. One question is does one overlock the edges of the seams of the strips?

Hello, and welcome from Michigan! It isn't necessary to overlock seams, but is generally more of a personal preference.

Hi from Colorado, USA. I don't do anything to the ends of the strips. But when I am piecing, I always shorten my stitch length.
