Morning All,
Well, this is all a new experience for me. I am going to be a first time "grammy" and working on my very first quilting project, a baby quilt.

I am at the point of my quilt to layer it together and am having a difficult time on what is the best way to proceed. Using extra loft batting and started pinning it all together (straight pins) and and the backing is not as taut as I think it should be.....

Any suggestions as to what to do, will be more than appreciated.

Starting to panic....baby wants to come earlier than planned (July) and my daughter-in-law is now on complete bed rest and has been for past month. Need to get this completed before I fly back East.

Always grateful for any help,
Kathy

Hello and welcome from the UK! As another newbie, any advice I could give should be viewed with suspicion but I'm sure that someone will be along shortly who can set you on the right path. By the way, congratulations.

Welcome from Michigan.:) When I'm putting together my quilt sandwich, I first smooth out the backing fabric, then use masking tape to tape it in place, then add the batting, then the quilt top. After the top is smooth also, I then use safety pins and pin all together. This works for me, I rarely have to repin it because not taunt enough. Hope this helps you.

Hi and welcome from Oregon. Congrats! on the grandbaby. Like saf, im fairly new to quilting but you might try using a spray basting adhesive. Give it a few mins. and an experienced quilter will give you better advice.

Taping the back down does work well (I use low tack painters tape), then spray, batting, top.
