    Default Nooby from Michigan

Hello.... my name is Spartanden and I'm bike-a-holic.
Seriously.... I am just learning about this sewing stuff an am trying to figure out what I'm doing.
I retired end of 2018 from an aerospace company. I have a Harley Davidson and love to ride.
I bought a Singer treadle sewing machine probably 8 or so years ago. Nice machine, in great shape. I believe it is a Model 115, had it inspected and "tuned-up" and it works well. I currently use it to sew patches on leather vests.
I inherited my mothers Singer, Model 28. I am working to get that running and I believe I'm 98% there. This one is electric.
As near as I can tell the 115 is a 1914 model an the 28 is a 1912.
I just made a tee shirt quilt/blanket with my granddaughters newer sewing machine. My goal is to use the electric 28 to make another
I will be snooping around here trying to gather information....primarily on my two machines. Bear with me as I learn.
I am from Spartan Country Michigan. Am a die hard Spartan. And you may learn more about me as we go along.

Howdy Spartanden, my hubby is from the Grand Rapids/Holland area and I have learned to say Boo Buckeyes... Wolverines are still No. 1, but Spartans are ok if they are beating the Buckeyes.

I hope you have fun with the machines and the quilting both. I've been using vintage machines older than me (circa 1960) for the last couple of decades but was recently gifted with a modern machine. I still maintain that all you need is a good strong straight stitch for quilting and often the vintage machines do better with that than some of the modern, but as I have vision issues I surely do love the automatic threader on the modern machine!

Hi and welcome from North Carolina! You've come to the right place for answers to all your questions about quilting and on your vintage Singer. I have an old treadle that doesn't work and a new Singer Heavy Duty electric mechanical one that's about 2 years old that works beautifully. Enjoy your retirement and your new hobby!
