Don't let the Philistines upset you when you are making art - what ever medium you choose to use. We have 3 men in one group that I belong to, one in two others and two in another, and no one bats an eyelid about any of them. I am sure you will enjoy. There are a number of guys in this group, that I have noticed, and at least one who is very knowledgeable about all things quilting.
