Hi from Cairns Australia

I stumbled across this website a few weeks ago so have been receiving Newsletters.I am amazed that there seems to be a big following and have enjoyed looking at all your recent quilt photos etc.- there are some very talented people out there.
I caught the patchwork/quilting bug over 4 years ago. I have never become so addicted to a hobby and my patchwork friends joke that I have amassed enough fabric (SABLE- Stash acquired beyond life expectancy) and books to start my own shop. With working full time to suport the hobby there never seems to be enough hours in the day to quilt. I never sewed before as my sewing teacher at High School told me I was hopeless and would never be a sewer- if only she could see me now.
Originally from New Zealand we moved to Australia 16 years ago-I live just north of Cairns at Holloways Beach, Cairns is a tourist town with its close proximity to the Great Barrier Reef. My family is my two beautiful chocolate labrador dogs. At present it is Winter here but we only get 2 seasons here- wet and dry-our winter temperatures (dry season) are around 28C.I have a huge stash of NZ and Aussie fabrics-have made lots of NZ themed quilts which I hope to post on the site when I know my way around-the more I do the better I get and I don't think I will ever get tired of the hobby. I look forward to talking with and sharing with you all in the future. I am hoping to retire and spend more time pursing the hobby but I reckon with everything I now want to do I will have to live 5 lifetimes! This is a great website.
I have a great quilting mentor with Frances Leate from the Cairns Craft Centre. For those who may have seen the Australian Patchwork & Quilting Magazines Frances regularly has her quilt patterns published in these magazines. She is truly inspirational and I have learnt so much from her.

Welcome from NY state. You will really enjoy yourself here. And as far as the SABLE there are a lot of members of that club right here, myself included, even though I've hardly started quilting, I'm ready, lol.

Welcome from North Central PA.
Our youngest DD and her DH are living in Auckland, NZ while she attends the Uni there doing her post grad work. We visited last October, and are planning to visit again in February, with a stop in Australia either on the way to or the way home.
