Welcome from So. Cal. This is a wonderful place to learn. My specialty in making quilts is for them to be fun and used. A few years ago I entered the world of machine embroidery so now the majority of my quilts have embroidered pieces in them. The funnest part for me is making quilts for kids. And I love to make the pillow cases for people too. Not to forget the reading pillows - just so much fun to make.

Hope you enjoy the site!

Welcome from Québec, Canada. Good advices have already been given. Just jump right in and have fun. That's all what matters. I started with a placemat and a pot holder and that was over 10 years ago. Just be aware that once you start, it is almost impossible to stop! ha ha

I suggest you find a kit from a store or online. Make sure that is simple..this will eliminate color choices and find all the pieces..most kits have good instructions. If you get stuck, give us a holler and we would be glad to help.

Welcome from Maine, lots of great information and inspiration here. We love to see pictures of projects. I agree, start with a small project like a table runner, and grow from there. I started with patchwork square quilts, baby size, and have grown from there.

Welcome from south Texas! I love this site. It is the only one I read with my morning coffee. I used to consider myself a beginner, but since quilting my first quilt "NOT only in the ditch", I would describe myself as intermediate beginner! lol. My first quilt was literally 4 1/2 squares sewn together, with no instruction or youtube for help.
Then I learned applique--Katie bar the door!

I'm a retired teacher that misses teaching. Love to answer any questions, from my limited knowledge, and share any techniques that I have learned.

...Save yourself, it's addicting!
