Hi from Bakersfield, CA!! I would do the 9 patch like you were saying, then use that as a center medallion and do several different types of pieced borders around it in complimentary colors.

Are they Calalilies? (sp)? I think it will be so beautiful when you get it done. One of our daughters had those flowers in her wedding . . . truly lovely! I would go for earth tones that matched. Enjoy the process!
