Welcome from West Texas....I bought a Brother from Walmart 5 years ago, and couldn't be happier with it. I still can get the parts and feet directly from Brother.com, and little maintenance other than cleaning. The price was right at the time. I was using and old Nelco my DIL had given me, and I spent more time working on it than sewing. Just my opinion....

welcome from Mississippi, I sew on a 1951 Featherweight and won't use any of the other machines I own. I just sew on this and quilt on another Gambill/singer.

I have an older Viking 630 and am totally in love with it. Be certain you have a reputable dealer who can also do any repairs if needed. And WELCOME.

I've seen the Singer Project Runway on line or should I think about a Viking?
