Hi,
I'm Linda and I am a long time sewer (especially cross stitch) but fairly new to quilting. I retired about four years ago and was determined to learn to quilt. Well, I have finished two quilts and now have many UFOs, joined a guild, and I'm hooked. I have one son who is 25 and a very supportive husband.

Welome Linda, there seems to be all sorts of beginners here, me included, but mingled in are just as many with tons of experience. Isn't this a great hobby?

Hi Steve,
Yes, this is a great hobby. I am learning needle turn applique. I prefer the hand work to machine. Maybe that is why I haven't put my quilts together. Wish I knew hand quilting.

I just starting to quilt and decided to machine piece but quilt by hand. It's interesting but time consuming. I can see why a lot of folks use machines but there is something quite therapeutic about stitching by hand. I'll probably do some of the larger quilts by machine, but figured the small ones for the babies are just find by hand.

Welcome Linda,
You've found the most addictive internet group and the most addictive hobby. I woke this morning with severe ache in my wrist. I broke it in April, got cast off in June, and went right back to quilting. The machine sewing is still a little hard for me to keep square as the wrist doesn't turn correctly yet, but it will not stop me from this fun fun stuff.

Hope to hear much more from you and that you'll share your experience with fabrics, threads, techniques, and all the woes, too.

Sharon
