hello, my name is Edderie. I am an old time African American quilter. I have quilted off and on for years. I started quilting when it was necessary if you wanted to keep warm in the winter time. Now quilts serve and are used for so many more purposes. It is facinating to see how wide spread the use is and the beauty in the variety of quilts. I started to quilt on a regular basis just before I retired in 2003. I guess my quilting is old african American utilitarian style. I love it!. I do it the way my mom and aunts did it. I enjoy the message board! Lot's of good information. Keep up the good work, everyone!

Hi Edderie,
It's wonderful to be able to talk with, ask questions of, and just enjoy our favorite pastime isn't it? I love quilting, I love talking about quilting, sewing, and fabrics. I really envy those that design and dye their own fabrics. I can only go pick out what I like and go from there, you know?
I miss the fabrics of the feed sacks and the muslins of my youth, they held up much better than these over processed cottons, I think. Well, enough of my drivil, welcome and share with us. If you've been quilting that long, you have tips we haven't thought of yet! :D

Hi from marmar from TX. I have a catalog of the Gee's Bend Quilts that were traveling to cities and wonder if this is what you are referring to when you mentioned your quilts. Some of these quilts are so awesome they take my breath away. Welcome from another new member. :D
