Hello there. Welcome to the board. I would say start with 9 patch. It goes always, to disappearing 9 patch,border it and it changes,mix up your colours, use scraps. Have fun.

Hi and welcome from England.

Why not have a look at the tutorials on here. It might give you some ideas. You can just start very small and build bigger. Libraries also have books on various techniques.

If you are not sure, why not look as some of the internet sites especially those that do block of the months. A simple block can look very effective done as a mug rug or a place mat, especially if you add borders.

Hi from Queensland...a quilter told me that the best thing to start on was a table runner. I,myself, found a beginners class had us start on a full sized quilt. For us it nearly turned us off quilting. :)
