Hi ya'll! I am beginning to sew together my first EVER quilt. I',m 57. In the past I have only sewn out of dire necessity. My husband was the better seamstress since he sewed parachutes in the Navy. But....we converted a house into a quilter's retreat house, and while playing hostess I've seen so many really individual and stunning quilts that I just had to try. All those wonderful teachers that are bringing groups to the house are at least 40 miles from here. We have a JoAnn fabrics and they know of no one in the area that even teaches basic sewing. So, I'm learning from the internet. I will be needing lots of advice. Thank the Lord I have a couple of cousins in Texas who are experienced quilters and can mentor me through Facebook. Other than these circumstances, I'm a grandma of seven, love to pieces. I flower garden and summer salad garden. I like to decorate and cook. In other words, I'm a GRANDMOTHER!

Welcome from central Illinois! You'll learn a LOT at this site.
In addition, get yourself one or two quilting books that cover topics A to Z that you can learn from and turn to as an ongoing reference when trying to figure something out. My personal favorite is Better Homes and Gardens' "Compelte Guide to Quilting." It is $13.57 at Amazon.com or you mgiht be able to get it at your Joann's with a coupon. I know others here have their favorite reference books as well.

Hi from northeast IN! My favorite quilt book is Fons and Porter's Complete Guide to Quilting. I use it all the time when I'm doing something I don't do very often. I found one used for $3.97 recently. Are there any quilt groups in your area? Send me a Private Message if you want to know about quilt shops in IN. I know of shops from Ft Wayne to Marion, Wabash, South Bend, Shipshe, etc.
Most of all, have fun!
