Hiya all my name is Ann and i am a new quilter never thought to make one till my daughter had a huge desire to create on for her best friend for Christmas, Last November (2010) we visited a quilting show and the bug hit. Now my daughter has a proffession and no time . I am retired and all the time i need.
As said i have nevr quilted before and have no one to say how why or wherefore so it was a simple case of set to and do at the beginning of December. daughter purchased the cotton sheeting in three colours and i decided on the thread colors, the blocks were cut to 10.5 inches, and a leaf design chosen for each block to be embroidered with.
The quilt would end up aprox 90 inch square . My embroidery machine worked overtime and hubby kept me supplied with liberal amounts of tea. by the third week in December i had completed a quilt and backed it with polar fleece for warmth and ease of washing.
I sat down and realised that my own daughter would also love a quilt. no more adoe i sat right back down and used up a pile of fabric and created a thousand pyramid quilt for her of the same size, thankfully we could not meet up till the day after Christmas so you can guess what i was doing on the big day. yep binding the edges. and makeing the matching pillow cases
When both the girls (aged over 40 ) opened their Big present the look on their faces made it all worth while .
I am going to have a go at paper piecing next to make some cushions for them .
