    Red face Possum Whisperer

Hey, ya'll, from southeast Alabama!!! I love sewing and quilting although I have not done much of either for several years. This site makes me want to go out and buy LOTS of fabric!!. Shhhh, don't tell hubby! This is going to great fun for me and my pet possum "Calvin". I'm sure he will love rumaging around the scraps in the middle of the night. I look forward to giving and receiving many great ideas with everyone!!

    Possums Rule!

Our possum (opossum if you live outside the South), Calvin, is a male and is one year old this month. We've had him since July 4th last year. He and six of his siblings were left in out front yard and mama didn't come back for them. Mama possums are not like cats or dogs where they make sure everyone is on board. You fall off - you're on your own! He was about 2 inches long and I fed him every 3-4 hours with any eye dropper. Unfortunately none of his siblings survived so he is all alone except for our 14 cats and 2 dogs. He sleeps during the day and roams around the house at night after a little snuggle time with me in the big chair. Loves scrambled eggbeaters and blueberry yogurt for breakfast and dog chow for supper. He is potty trained - first in water and now he uses possum pads. He's an unusual pet. I wouldn't recommend having one around small children because of their 50 teeth and tendency to bite first and ask questions later. Google opossums on the internet - they are very interesting creatures to be sure.

Hello, so good to hear from someone who has raised opossums! I've had trouble finding others out there with information to offer. Maybe we should come up with a "Possum Quilt". That would be a hoot!

Hi, and welcome to the QB from Central Texas.

Calvin is a cutie! I've had lots and lots of different pets during my life, but I've never known anyone to have a pet possum. They just have so many teeth!

Welcome from TX! Don't know about 'possums, but it's very dangerous for cats to eat thread. Best keep Calvin away from the sewing stuff. Are they good pets? We have one that lives under our deck, but he's afraid of people.

Hi. Lucky Calvin to have found you. What an unusual pet. I have had a few non-pet regulars around the place and we got along just fine, but none wanted to come in for a snuggle
