Also: I just wanted to add that I loved my first machine so much (it was the cheapest Brother I could find~ around $90...at Wal-Mart), that I had to upgrade. I got a Brother sewing and embroidery machine for Christmas this past year. I LOVE IT! This machine is probably not what you want to start out with. I recommend, like everyone else has said, to start out with the cheap machine. I still have my original one, and I still use it. I just decided there were a few bells and whistles that I wanted! :D

The machine I use most for piecing my blocks is a Brother LS 2020 just straight and zigzag stich cost me $70 it replaced my 1951 sears machine

I have other machines for other things but still use the brother the most

Congrats, and Welcome. I agree, get a machine, start out simple, Don't need a fancy machine. Go to your Library and read all you can on quilting, start simple and then take off. You will find a special world to explore. You are only limited by your imagination. Have no fear, there are seam rippers to. Just enjoy this amazing world of quilts and the special people that make them.

Thanks

http://www.iowastarquilts.com/mysteryquilt.html This site has quite a few free patterns for table runners, maybe you might see something there that appeals to you.

Thanks Thimblebug - I have had a quick look at the site and the runners look fabulous - will save it to my favourites list!

Your tag line was the best laugh I've had in ages.....

Sure I'm a perfect size 4. I keep it enclosed in a protective layer of fat so it doesn't get scratched.

Thanks
K Cama

My "other" brother is LS1520. When I get my sewing room set up, I want it on another table so I can sew something if I need while I'm in the middle of an embroidery project! :D
