Hi Caroline, welcome from the Gold Coast Australia!

You will probably find your thread is not suitable for your machine, try another brand of a good quality thread.

Welcome Caroline, from Mississippi,USA,I had a friend that went to Tasmaina on Vacation and brought me some fabric from "Grandma's Craft Shoppe" @ 16 Wilmot Road, Huonville, Tasmania. Are you familar with this shop? The fabric is beautiful 100% cotton. On your machine problem, have you checked the tension and also the bobbin case might have a rough place on it. Hope you enjoy the forum.

Diane819 02-23-2011 10:55 AM

Maybe your needle had a burr and when the thread runs through the eye of the needle it cuts the thread. Try changing your needle.

Hi and welcome from North Carolina. I have a pen pal who lives there in Tasmania, Australia. I don't have an answer to your question, but I'm sure someone does here on the board. Everyone here is very helpful. :) :)

Welcome from Washington State! Try changing both top and bobbin thread. Also try changing the needle and the tension. Otherwise, you may want to take it in for a tune up. Hope you get it figured out so you can get back to sewing.

sherrykae 02-23-2011 05:14 PM

I recently had the same problem, switched from an all cotton thread to a poly and no more problem. Check to make sure the bobbin is in correctly sometimes that causes problems.

Welcome from Virginia! Check behind the bobbin case if you have any stray pieces of thread which can wreak havoc on your tension. I have the HQ16 and was having my thread break every few stitches and after checking everything, I found thread wrapped around the shaft behind the bobbin case. A pair of tweezers is great for this job. Hope this helps.

Welcome from South Africa. Are you sure your needle position is in the right way?

Gerbie 02-24-2011 01:41 AM

Try flipping the spool of thread over, sometimes the thread gets caught in the slit at the top of the spool when coming off. I've had this happen to me a few times.
