if I can use the program off-line. I know you need to be on-line to download the program, but can you use the program if you are not hooked up to the internet. Just wondering if it would be worth getting a laptop to take with me on vacation so I can start planning future quilts. I know I won't have access to any internet.

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D

You only need to be online to download fabrics from their site or others, or for a possible update, or to initially activate the program :D:D:D

You can use it offline, but EQ6 requires occasional connection to the internet to verify some registration requirement. If you haven't logged on to the internet with that laptop in the last 60 days, you can't use EQ6. Simple solution would be to log in to the internet and launch EQ6 just before you leave on vacation.

EQ6 does not check back with the mother ship unless you're (re)installing the program. It needs to verify the number of valid activations remaining on your license.

You might be thinking of EQ7, which has a very different activation/install policy.

In the EQ7 manual there is some information about loading the disk onto a flash drive, and then to your laptop. I am not sure about EQ6. One thing to consider is how much memory and free space you would have on your laptop vs how much EQ would take. I would call their toll free number and ask.
