Hi, I've just joined in! Wanted to use my favorite username, but alas, already taken. So from here on in, I'll be "Fabric Maniac" which I certainly am. My first topic... since I am a native of Boston (now living in AZ) I have a "pet peeve" ... great way to start out, huh? I always feel the hair rising on the back of my neck when the traditional quilt block is referred to as "Boston Commons". It is NOT "Commons", but simply "Common" with no "s" for plural. A "Common" is the word typically given to represent a public park and since the early 1700s, it has been known as Boston Common, the large public area in the heart of the city. OK... I am off my soapbox!!

I know what you mean about things like the extra "s" in a phrase like that. I too am bothered by many such things. All you can do is shed light on them when they come up. Keep up the good efforts and welcome to the group.

AHWATUKEE! I'm right across the street!! I live in Sun Lakes off Riggs Road. Do you happen to be a member of Prickly Piecers over there? I know several members in the group, one of which is also here in our large guild - 171!

fabricmaniac 12-29-2010 02:27 PM

I've been a member of AQG for the 10 years I've live here. Love their Spring and Fall meetings and their annual show. Plus great opportunities to take classes from nationally known teachers.

fabricmaniac 12-29-2010 02:31 PM

Thanks! Love your signature! I see you live in County Meath. My husband (Irish) and I have been to Ireland 3X and love it so much. I have a close quilting friend in Dublin who is the same age as my second son! Laura has been over to visit 3X as well. Ireland is so beautiful! My heritage is English and Scottish; love those areas as well.

We saw almost every bit of it as well as seeing a great deal of Scotland; actually played golf at St. Andrews! We'll be stopping in Dover and Cornwall next Spring when we do a 4 week double cruise to Eastern Europe.

Welcome from the south shore of Boston. We plan on being on the Common tonight for some First Night celebrations. Did you ever go when you lived out here?
