I am 87 and have been quilting non stop for the past seven years. Bill and I had been married for 60 years when he was taken by pancreatic cancer. I was lost! Some friends encouraged me to join our Rec. Center, and Red Hats. My first trip with them was to the Texas State Fair where I watched a demon of the Viking embroider machine. That was all I needed to see, I bought one on the spot and brought it home and I haven't stopped. I have about 47 ggrand kids and announcements of more to come. I really have lost track of just how many because my grandkids can't figure out what causes it. I love them and love making quilts for them.

Ggram87,
Welcome from Dallas! If you went to the Texas State Fair, I am guessing that you must be from around these here parts, Partner. Today is the last day of the Fair and I haven't even been this year -- planned to go but I've been sick. Welcome to the Message Board. We need to hear from quilters who have been at it for 7 years. I'm so glad that at 87 y.o., you are able to quilt. My own mother is 85 and her arthritis is so bad that she can no longer do any handcrafts, and she was such a good knitter. You are blessed! |

I'm a youngster of 77 and love quilting. I'm with you, I lost my own DH nearly 4 years ago and it still seems like last week.
Quilting and volunteering keep me busy, and in between finishing a robot lap robe for my daughter's second grade class in Texas, I'm making curtains for my kitchen and painting the small bathroom. I decided I hated it a few weeks ago but haven't decided what color, that will happen when I go look at the paint samples. Keep busy, time will soften your grief, but you just can't forget all those busy years with your love. If you want to chat, PM me any time, I'm on the computer far too much, and on this forum WAY too much but it's addicting. |
