I just found this forum - unfortunately, I am off work sick with bronchitis. SO - have some time to surf. I have made 2 small quilts to date - just started last fall. I have enjoyed the quilts I have made but now want to do more. I am intrigued by the quilt as you go method - I like to see things come together fast.
About me - I am a 50 something single woman in a long term relationship. Have lived in SW WA for 17 years. Most of my family lives in Washington - both sides of the mountains and we get together frequently. All 4 of us girls (3 sisters) and most of our daughters sew to some extent. I love to sew, read, cook, garden. I am also involved in historical re-enactment of the fur trade era (mt men/rendezvous). I stay rather busy year round. Does anyone else live in the SW WA region? Would love to get together with someone else who shares at least some of my passions. Leanne |
Welcome from Southern California. We have several members who live in Washington and Oregon.

Hi & welcome from Mass.

Hi and welcome from central part of Indiana. Sorry you are home sick but look at the bright spot you found this place :D
|
Thanks for the welcome. I was reading some of the other posts and thought of a question. I have a Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 USB embroidery machine - I love it. I recently purchased a walking foot for it and have not had a chance to try it out. Do any of you use a walking foot for quilting?

HI and welcome from NW WA. I just got new walking foot and I really like it for quilting. I didn't get to spray glue this quilt so I had to keep straightening the backing although I had pinned the heck out of it. Hope you get well real FAST but not TOOO fast, if ya know what I mean!!!   Work will always be there and you certainly dont' want to get your co-workers sick, right??????

Hello and Welcome!! I am from Seattle!!

Hi and Welcome from southern Indiana! Hope you feel better soon!
|
Hello from Port Angeles area :D
|
I just started quilting last fall. I purchased a book called "First Time Quiltmaking, In 6 easy Lessons". Boy - it started me out with the absolute basics which I didn't really need. I have been sewing for 40 some years so I knew how to measure and cut the fabric. I was not really intimidated by the piecing process other than most of the quilts I have seen seem so intricate. There are 3 patterns in the book - blocks and rails. I used stitch in the ditch technique to quilt the 2 baby sized quilts that I have made. It is so easy but now I am ready for something more advanced. Since I also just purchased a walking foot, I plan to make a few blocks to try the foot out. They will be small blocks that I quilt and bind - may end up as hot pads for the table! I also want to make a quilt for my bed but that looked to daunting as I do not have a long arm quilting machine like my sister does.
I went to the Sewing and Stitchery Expo in Puyallup the end of February. I took a Quilt as You Go seminar on "strippy quilts". You make individual strips for your quilt, quilt them on the machine and then put your strips together with sashing. I am now deciding what fabric colors to use. |
Welcome from NW Oregon. (Just outside of Portland)
Sorry your'e sick but I'm glad you found us. So something good came of it  You will find lots of help and inspiration here! |

Hello there & welcome from the Yakima Valley!! :D

Welcome from the middle of the state of Washington.

Welcome from Central WV....(from WA to WV :) )!
WOW! I didn't realize that there are quite a few WA members on here! :D One of my goals as a teenager was to visit WA. I would still love to visit, but we generally don't get that far on our yearly vacation! ;) |
HI FROM OLYMPIA, WA I DON'T HAVE A WALKING FOOT FOR MY MACHINE, I CAN'T SEE PAYING AROUND $100. FOR ONE, I MAKE DO BY DOING A LOT OF PINNING WHEN I DO MY QUILTING. I DO A LOT OF STIPPLING OR STITCH IN THE DITCH QUILTING. STIPPLING IS MY FAVORITE, RELEAVES A LOT OF STRESS.

Welcome from Florida. We're at the opposite ends of the US. Hope you feel better.

Hi from Yelm, Wa. Just out side of Olympia

:-) Hi from NE Washington, about 50 miles from Canadian border, 85 miles from Spokane. I'm new to the site. I'm 65, married, I retired 2 years ago and am enjoying all the time I have now to sew, read, and snoop at yard sales. I have 2 quilt tops finished, now to "sandwich" them together. I hope you feel better soon. Not fun being sick. Take care.

I LIVE RIGHT IN OLYMPIA ON THE NE SIDE. JUST A FEW BLOCKS FROM BAYSIDE QUILT SHOP. I'M ON NORTH CENTRAL STREET. MY DAUGHTER USE TO LIVE IN YELM, GLAD SHE MOVED INTO OLYMPIA. MUCH CLOSER FOR ME NOW THAT THEY LIVE ONLY A FEW BLOCKS AWAY FROM ME. MY GRANDKIDS GO TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL. I DO LIKE TO GO TO GEE GEE'S. I GET OVERWHELMED WHEN I GO IN THERE.

Welcome from your northern neighbour.
It's fun to see so many people here from the west. In just over a week I will be heading out on a road trip south to northern California and will pass through pretty much all of your towns - they're all familiar names to me. (isn't Cashmere where the Aplets & Cotlets come from?) We will be drivining home along the coast highway right around the west to Port Angeles. Would love to meet people along the way although I know that it can be difficult to fit a visit into a travel schedule. But, I will be thinking of you as we drive through. If anyone has a "must see", please send it along, especially if it would interest me - a quilter, or my granddaughter - an 11-year old. DH can be content to chauffeur! :-) |
If you are comming through Yelm a must see is Gee Gee's quilt shop. Have a great trip

Welcome from Texas!
I was born in Portland and we lived on an island in the Colombia River the first 5 years of my life (near Cathlamet). Hope to make it back someday to do some genealogy. Have ancestors (Howard) from that area and Waitsburg area. |

Hi and welcome from Georgia. Glad to have you with us.
It's good you are feeling better, hope you will not abandon us now that you have returned to work!! |
I was away for the weekend. Went to a blackpowder shoot. Anyway, no internet service there. Am home now and busy with the day to day stuff.
I finally received my orders from the Sewing and Stichery Expo. I ordered the Kaye Wood Noah's Ark embroidery designs and quilt pattern. My daughter isn't pregnant yet but want to get started on a quilt for my first grandchild since it will take some time to get it done. Work sure gets in the way of all the things I want to do!!!! Leanne |
Hi! I went to that Sewing & Stitch Expo several years ago with two quilting buddies. Geez, my friend, Marge, who is older than me just about walked my legs off. Talk about wishing to win the Lottery and then go on a fabric buying spree. Just wish, wish, wish. We visit the Expo for two days in a row and went to several of the workshops. Just so neat and lots of new stuff to learn. I hope to go again one of these years.
