This is an awesome place! Lots of talented sewers/quilters! Thanks for letting me in. I hope to learn to quilt, maybe even find someone in PA (Berks/Lancaster Co.?) who would be a mentor. For now I am experimenting on my own. So far I made two crazy quilt blocks, got stumped and turned them into something else. Had to be there, lol. Not giving up, yet. Looking forward to hearing from anyone!

Hello! And welcome! :-)

There's people of ALL skill levels here, so don't fret. :-)

I have to tell you... I met a guy from Pennsylvania once, and me and my big mouth I blurted out "wow, isn't that where Dracula is from?!?"

When he stopped laughing he pointed out it was TRANSylvania I was thinking of.

I told him I was Australian as an excuse! ;-)

Thanks for the welcome, Blue Chicken - and the story! It was amusing. My daughter went to Australia/New Zealand for two weeks when she was 13 through People to People International. She says it was wonderful, and ever since, she hopes to be able to return some day! (She's 20 now...) See you around!

LOL - I have one of those snore monsters too - whereabouts are you in Penn, did you say near Lancaster is that an Amish area?

Oh my goodness... we have "the boonies" too... I never knew it was a world wide phrase! LOL Another name for it is "out in the wop wops". No idea where that originated from.

*QuilterWannabee*, what time is it there? It's 8:35pm here. I'm about to send the kids to bed and have some peace and quiet! :-)

Ninnie 06-09-2009 12:37 AM

BC, that was always my favorite time, when everyone else was in bed.
Now I have an empty nest, and can't sleep!

God does have a sense of humor

Yea Quilter wannabee, where are you that you are up at this hour, it's 4:36 in the morning here!

Howdie Neighbor. I am right down the road in Mifflin County, by PSU. You have TONS of resources in your area. I am sure you will be able to find a guild or more help might just be a neighborhood group. Go to one of the thousand or so quilt shops there and get the quilters road guide. (can't remember the name exactly) It will lay out all kinds of options for you. But the fact that you are smack dab in the middle of PA quilt mecca should help. Welcome

Ninnie - LOL, in the wee a.m. hours I was trying to put some distance between myself and the sounds of the Mad Snorer ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz. Between that and "hot flashes" there was no sleep for the weary.

*QuilterWannabee* 06-09-2009 08:33 AM

Hello and Welcome!!! :D :D :D Love your avatar....it is so bright and intense....I am seeing a quilt taking shape in my mind.... :D :D :D

MadQuilter 06-09-2009 01:04 PM

Greetings from Sacramento CA. OK, curiosity got the cat: What did those crazy-quilt squares turn into????? Looks like you creativity and that you fit right in.

*QuilterWannabee* 06-09-2009 03:07 PM

Thank you! Glad it speaks to you, too! I could see a quilt in there somewhere, too, - wouldn't that be something? Inspiring... :D

*QuilterWannabee* 06-09-2009 03:22 PM

Hi MadQuilter! Glad you asked. I put batting and a backing on the blocks, folded it in half, sewed across the bottom and sides and turned it inside out. They are now two unfinished crazy quilt design "pouches?" I had good intentions....I need to figure out how to give the tops a finished edge. I think they are pretty and would make a nice little makeup bag or feminine products case for use in a purse. (Best idea I could come up with, lol.) I am sure an experienced sewer would have them finished in a minute. Me--I stare at bunches of bias and go hmmm....another year went by and I still don't know how to do something with those things I made. I wish I could show you...I have to look around this forum, I think I did see a place you could post pictures... so, there you have it. I like to think I am creative...hope to fit in...you all make it easy enough!

*QuilterWannabee* 06-09-2009 03:34 PM

Thanks for the welcome! No excuses for me, then. : ) I just need to connect.

Yep, it's called the Pictures section. Your pouches sound cute.
