My FEET!!!

Lacelady 06-10-2009 01:49 PM

Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes, yes, it's my 63rd birthday today. (10th, for those of you with time differences). Sorry Buggalugs for hijacking your thread. (BTW, my father used to call me buggalugs too, so it can't just be a Yorks/Lancs thing, as I was born in Hertfordshire)

I will happily accept Presidency, as long as it doesn't involve too much, as otherwise I will have to decline, because of pressing UFO's getting on my conscience. In that case I will defer to age and mplsgirl can take up the challenge!

Aunt Doggie 06-10-2009 01:59 PM

It's a Yorkshire term of endearment - ha'porth is short for 'half penny worth'. My granny said you USED to be able to get a ha'porth of chips (French fries NOT crisps!)

buggalugs 06-10-2009 11:22 PM

Lacelady no worries, enjoy the warm wishes and I hope you had a great day too :)
Madquilter, ha'porth is a corruption of Halfpenny, a small sum of money if you were lets say mentally challenged  you were a ha'porth short of a shilling :)
Aunt Doggie I have tried to get into chat but I seem to have a problem, all the text goes right over where I am supposed to write and I can't make myself 'seen' lol no idea what is wrong but I shall persevere :)

Lacelady 06-10-2009 11:45 PM

There have been a couple of threads recently about people not being able to join in with chat - try the search engine, 'Problems with Chat' and you might find the answer to your particular problem, or at least a couple of things you could try.

When Iwas a child and my Granny used to say 'daft ha'porth' to me, she'd drop the 'H' in good Yorkshire fashion, so i always thought it was 'apeth' ie, something to do with being a monkey! :D

buggalugs 06-10-2009 11:46 PM

Thank YOu Lacelady I will try that :)

dlf0122quilting 06-11-2009 06:28 AM

Welcome from Southern California, just north of San Diego. I was in your country a couple of years ago for the first time. I love it. My ancestry is Swedish and German. I have been quilting (mostly applique) for about 15 years and it is my passion in life. I just hope I can live long enough to use up some of my beautiful fabrics.

If you have questions about anything quilting related, this is the place to get answers. It is the most friendly form around and everyone is so eager to share their knowledge.

Again, welcome.

billswife99 06-11-2009 08:07 AM

Jacqui! All this time and I never knew you spoke another language!!!

Lacelady 06-11-2009 08:22 AM

Oh Loretta, I don't think it would be fair to just restrict our club to Brits - it started out as one for those of us who were a little overweight, and of a certain age (over 50), so that has widened the scope a little more! (oh, and I think some of us had colour in our hair, though mine is just plain grey).

buggalugs 06-11-2009 08:24 AM

Lacelady I most certainly agree.. open the borders and prepare to invade ;) International Relations could learn a lot from quilters :d

Hello Buggarlugs, gosh I haven't heard that nickname since I was a child.Welcome to the forum, you will find so much help and friendship here.I live in North Yorkshire,U.K but was born in Nottingham where that nickname was used a lot! I find that the U.S sites much more open and generous than any other. Glad you have find this site,Letty.( I wonder if anyone knows what the nickname means ! )

Letty 06-11-2009 09:32 AM

Oh so true !!!!!! Letty

Dorothy of Kansas 06-11-2009 09:42 AM

Welcome from Kansas - also fair (does silver count as fair???) I'm in great shape - round is a shape you know!! and in my 50's, so do I qualify???

Letty 06-11-2009 10:08 AM

Hi Loretta, Letty is short for Letitia, which is my my middle mame.My first name is Ann.In fact my mother gave me the name Letitia after her sister, who, can you believe, she never got on with !!!! Such is life.I would much have prefered Annie which was my mothers name.I choose Letty for the forum because I had to choose a password name, too late to change now.and I have got used to it.Happy patching, Letty

That's funny.

My friend's daughter insisted that the last line in our Pledge of Allegiance read "and Justin is a frog"

buggalugs and k3n, thanks for the translation. My grandma has the "10 Pfennig worth of baking soda" in her recipes. Talk about a corrupted pricing scheme there. lol

Lacelady 06-11-2009 03:51 PM

Of course you qualify, Dorothy. At this rate, we will have all the skinny quilters getting jealous.

bearisgray 06-11-2009 04:00 PM

welcome

Mplsgirl respectfully declines. Anything I am in charge of usually gets run into the ground. I will accept Vice Presidency, however, because they don't seem to do much anyway.

Just to keep this from being COMPLETELY TAKEN OVER BY THE BRITS & Scots, be they at home or abroad, WELCOME FROM CONNECTICUT :D I'm not fair, fat and 50 - I'm silver, slim and not tellin' :? May I still be in your club --- please    I've loved visiting England, Scotland and Canada, and I'm sure I would love visiting the rest of the Commonwealth, but I haven't been to the others yet.

Martina, what is it really? And ISN'T Justin a frog then?

Lacelady 06-12-2009 01:17 AM

Just HOW did I get landed with Presidency? It seemed to have sneaked up on me without me seeing it coming? What does everyone else think, do we allow those who are 'not telling' in? Great to have a Vice President on board tho, thank you mplsgirl for volunteering. You will, of course, have to take over when I am sick, on holiday, busy quilting etc. etc.

Hello from Indiana

stitchinMamaw 06-12-2009 07:00 AM

Hi from Virginia . I wanna join the club , too . I'm 55 , graying brown hair , and fat , too . Welcome to our quilting group [ family ] :D Annie

Mumzbear 06-14-2009 12:35 PM

Welcome...I'm Mumzbear from Utah. I am learning lots of neat things here. Happy Quilting.

dlf0122quilting 06-15-2009 06:09 AM

I am here representing way southern California. I am so glad to see all us granny types out there just quilting away. I like the idea of a club, makes us kinda unique here. I include myself because I'm almost 10 years past the 55 mark, grey and losing weight because of having 2 surgeries in 8 weeks, one on my stomach and esophagus. Otherwise I was fat. Can I join too, please, oh pretty please????

dlf0122quilting 06-15-2009 06:14 AM

Starting to feel better, thank you. I have been on all liquids for almost 3 weeks now and will be for a while longer, lost 23# already. It did not stop me from quilting for long. That was all I wanted to do when I got home from the hospital. I had prepped several applique blocks before I had the surgeries so that I would have plenty to do when I was up to it. I am now on my last prepped piece so guess there is progress in my health. Never let anything get between you and your passion!!!

Butterflyspain 06-15-2009 06:18 AM

Welcome from Sunny Spain. I am originally from the UK, born in Scotland but lived most of my life in Kent. Your name made me smile, that was one of my Dadīs favourite sayings.

Elle

dlf0122quilting 06-15-2009 06:30 AM

My DH and I have traved throughout Spain 2 times and he was stationed at Elizondo many years ago. The first time we stayed near Castello de la Plana and the last time we were near Benicarlo. We rented cars both times and travelled all over your wonderful country. I felt most at home there. I looked everywhere for fabric stores but could not find any. I guess you have to know where to look.

Lacelady 06-15-2009 08:08 AM

Of course you can join dlfo122quilting (Where did you get that name). I too hope you are feeling better, but I think that two surgeries are far too drastic a way to diet! Please eat something soon so that you don't become a shadow of your former self!

Anyway, since this is such a lovely forum/board, I don't think we can really exclude anybody, it wouldn't be fair, would it? What does everybody else think?
