Trimming the tips after pressing the seams open might help too.

Yay - it worked. Just trim the points on the dotted line to eliminate the bulk. |

When making FG the no waste method, note that the small squares will overlap each other, and this is where the bulk comes from. I sometimes fold it all in half and trim the two corners off before sewing both sides of the central line.
