Hi,
My name is Jack and I live with my wife, three dogs, one cat and 12 koi fish in the southeast corner of Kansas. Interests are plants, ponding, enjoy biking (but way too hot right now for that), working around the house and yard, good coffee and of course food :D Enjoy cooking on the grill outside and helping prepare food in the kitchen, and don't even mind cleaning up the mess. Was raised for a time by an older lady who was very down to earth and cooked from scratch, mended clothes and quilted. I have her old treadle singer sewing machine, and have decided to try my hand at quilting.
Hello to all and I look forward to getting a belt for my singer and getting started.
Jack
PS, here are my koi. They're always looking for a handout :P

Thank you all for the warm welcome. And thank you for the compliments on my pond and fish, I am quite proud of my pond, as it has taken me close to 2 years to tear out the old one and build this one. It's 9' deep, about 15' wide and 11' or so wide. Now that it's done, I need something else to do with my time and quilting has been something I've been wanting to get into for quite some time, but just hadn't done yet. I'm ready to create something with my hands which isn't as hard as moving all those rock.

Nice pond! Looks like my MILs. Are you sure it's not hers? Where in SE KS are you, that's where the in-laws are.

My inlaws live in Independence, have an aunt in law in Coffeyville and sis in law was in Cherryvale.
Small towns are nice, but no way I could live there

Why not? Look what a small World it is, you know where Peru is  Course, you wouldn't want to blink on the way through or you would miss it altogether

Grama Lehr 07-22-2010 08:34 AM

WELCOME from sunny California! ;-)
My oldest son also has a Koi pond. He really enjoys working on it.

koipuddle 07-22-2010 09:21 AM

Hi Grama L.
Yes, I too really enjoy working on mine, or just sitting next to it watching the fish. Very relaxing! Course it's too hot right now to be outside sitting by it during the day. I have lights set up around the pond, two that shines on the waterfall and 6 in the water, so I can watch the fish at nite and I enjoy watching them at nite. Especially when I have some shrimp to feed them; they really go wild!
I am glad to have found such a friendly community of people.
Jack

Small towns are nice, but I need something that doesn't roll up their sidewalks at 5pm.
I might be out in that area during Neewollah. If I am, I'll let you know. We could meet up for some coffee or something. In laws live right on Main St in Indy and we usually just walk over to the big corner to watch the parade

5pm?? You mean there are places open that late in the day? :-D
Yes, that would be nice. There is a new coffee shop in Indy near main street; used to be a gas station. Haven't been in there yet, but would like to try some of their java.

tlrnhi 07-22-2010 05:41 PM

I've been in there. It's the one that used to be on Penn that had the Health Food Store attached to it. Apparently the rent was raised on the old place and when the gas station closed down, the price was right and they moved in there. The coffee is pretty good. They have free wi-fi too! :)

Welcome for Oklahoma. Your fish and fish pond is beautiful. I am glad you are going to try your hand at quilting, wish my hubby would. Quilting is a lot like woodworking. You cut up fabric and wood and they put it all back together and turn it into something beautiful. Hubby and I have a little wood shop as our together hobby.

koipuddle 07-24-2010 11:06 AM

Thank you Kacy. Is that a long arm, or just a regular sewing machine you are doind free hand stitch with? Looks very interesting in you avatar. Please tell.

Hi Jack -

Welcome from Richmond, VA. Glad to see you here! You did tell me you joined... and, just curious, had you already joined when you received my e-mail? I look forward to reading about your journey in quilting. It's a wonderful process.

Hello from Lebanon, Oregon! I like your terminology! My girlfriend recently told me that all her other friends "cook" while I "prepare food"! :-) Enjoy quilting!
