Hello from Kentucky.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the group. Actually new to the sewing machine too. My mother in law gave me a 1970s kenmore solid state sewing machine model 566-19142. I absolutely love it. Only problem I have is I've never used one. I learned by hand. Hopefully you all will be helpful if I may ask a strange question.

Welcome from New York state! My first machine was a kenmore too, from my MIL! Used it for close to 20 years. Perfect for straight stitching, which is what most of piecing is all about!

Welcome from Southern California. I had home economics in 7th grade and learn to sew from my Grandmother. Take your time because in fact, it is a power tool. No question is too dumb. Just remind us you are a newbie. I hope you find the inspiration that I do from this site. Just one hint, don't make your first quilt a king size. I did! :)

Hopefully your mother-in-law will give you lessons to learn to use your new machine. The older Kenmores are wonderful machines. It isn't hard to use a sewing machine, just takes some patience with yourself.
