I am more of a clothes sewer than a quilter (at this time), but I enjoy seeing others quilt projects.
At this time, I am making quilt bags. Can someone please tell me what thickness medium loft batting is? I am making scrappy quilted bags and I want medium thickness polyester batting. The local Hanock is sold out and there is not a Joann's near my home. G Street Fabrics (where I taking sewing classes for clothes) is over priced for this type of item. I see a lot of polyester batting online but they dont' tell me the thickness. Does anyone know if Medium Loft is 1/4" in thickness? Any thoughts on where to get it woudl be appreciated. I only need about three or four yards. |
It depends on the bran and company. Medium loft is not always medium loft. The only real way to tell is to buy it and open the package! But in general, I would say medium would be somewhere around 1/4". Hobbs Heirloom Cotton (which is a cotton/poly blend) is a good starting place. Then if you want it loftier, you will have to go to poly batting. If your local Walmart still has crafts, they sell a brand of batting called Polyfil. It comes in several lofts. "Traditional" is very thin. Medium is about 1/4", and high loft is about 1/2". It's a good brand for a low price.

Welcome from Maryland!! :)
There is a Joann's in Frederick, but I know that's a haul - I don't usually shop G Street unless I really, really need something because that's a good drive for me. There are a couple of great LQS in Frederick as well, if you wanted to make an afternoon of it. |
