Good morning from the great state of TEXAS. New to this message board and new to, and I use the term losely, quilting. I got into QUILTING, by inheriting several quilt tops (about 32, that I have found so far), finished and unfinished, from my grandmother and mother. I live 22 miles from town and no close neighbors. When you live out like we do, you find something to do. So I thought, self these quilt tops needs something done with them, so self has gone into quilting, at the ripe age of 60.

I feel so lucky, but a little over whelmed.

I love the pic of your sewing machine, I too have one that my grandmother used until her death in 1986. My grandfather bought her an electric one, but she did not like it for quilt making.

LOL! Self made a wonderful decision! You're never too old! My brother decided I should learn to golf (so I could golf with him!) at age 70...and golfing is a bit more strenuous than quilting! Go for it! By the way...would love to see pics of the quilt tops you inherited.

Hello and welcome from northern California!

toomanycats 01-08-2011 12:36 PM

another one from northern california welcomes you. would love to see pictures of your quilts. what a wonderful gift. you are a very lucky person. I inherieted three finished from a great great aunt and one unfinished top from my great grandmother. my grandmother gave it to me to put a back on and quilt but have been afraid to tackle it. Is there a problem using modern quilt fabric with the old? This one is around sixty years old. What did you use to finish yours?

What a wonderful project to start your quilting journey on, I started quilting when I was 62 and I am only sorry that I didn't start sooner, but then if I did I wouldn't have had a life

Welcome, you are going to love it here. I started quilting about 4 years ago when I lived in the middle of nowhere out in west Texas. Best thing I ever did. This board is so full of inspiration, help, and very friendly quilters.
