Hello, I am new to quilting and look forward to learning at lot from everyone here. All tips are welcome. I would like to make my son a Bargello Quilt for his queen size bed as my first quilt. I have been told to use Jelly Rolls for this style of quilting.Does anyone else have advice on this? Also I am unsure as to how to go about choosing the colors of the fabric so that it compliments each other. I have been wanting to learn how to quilt for a very long time. And I think the time has come to just jump in and start.

I have not made one yet but they sure are pretty. Put Bargello in the search at the top of the page, you'll be amazed at the info there.

I have now done a few..below is the one I'm working on now..if your totally new to quilting..it might not be a good first choice..it is easier then it looks and to me the hard part is the selection of fabric..look at a lot of them and start with a simple one..to get the hang of it!

Hello from NC.
Good luck on the Bargello - it's really not hard. I hope you search all the info and tutorials out there on Bargellos and decide. Sometimes choosing colors is the hard thing. It's always good to see many examples of the basic pattern. For such a large quilt perhaps use wider strips. Here's a website I like: http://www.hgtv.com/crafting/bargello-quilt/index.html Bargello made for a friend-lap quilt size |
Thank you all for the warm welcome.I have done my research and bought some books on the making of a Bargello quilt. Still wondering what is the best way to go about the material. Should I just buy the colors by the yard or should I buy the Jelly rolls? For this size of a quilt how many different colors would you recommend?

Greetings from Chillicothe, Ohio. I made a bargello quilt and I staggered the seams in the columns so that I didn't have to line-up all those seams.

Welcome to the board. I'm so glad you found us. I have made several bargello quilts and I love them but I don't think I would have had the nerve to attempt one as my first quilt. There are some good books available at Amazon and also check out You Tube.
