I'm a beginner quilter and so far I'm lovin' it!! I think quilting must be addictive. Anyhow, I have a question - for pin basting a twin size quilt before machine quilting, approx how many pins will I need? Does it matter if the pins are #1 or #2?

The pin size does not really matter. However, larger pins will be easier to get through all 3 layers (top, batting, back) of the quilt. If you plan to pin at 6" intervals, you'll need around 140-150 pins. More pins, if you place them closer together. I calculated 10 pins per row with 14 or 15 rows for a twin sized quilt. I haven't pinned in a while, so my calculations could be a little off. I have a frame and short-arm setup now, so I don't need to baste.

Another option used by some of the members here on the board is basting spray. I've never used it, so I can't comment on it. But others do use it successfully.

Welcome to the board from Ireland. I bought a box of 500 pins before I got a Quilt tack Gun, and I never ran out of pins, so I should say you are not likely to need more than that, and possibly less.

Welcome from Southern California. I don't pin my quilts any more, I spray baste my quilts so I can't help you on the number of pins!

Greetings from outside Sacramento CA. I prefer the bent quilting pins to regular straight pins, they are much easier to get through all layers. How many? no idea.

I used to pin baste but after hearing about spray basting...it's much easier. I recommend you search the site to find out what's best for you.
