I am absolutely addicted to quilting. I just finished my Dear Jane and have it mounted on a frame and ready to hand quilt. I have done hand quilting before but on a smaller frame. I am wondering where I should start??? In the middle (like I would on a small quilt) or the top?? the bottom?? I sure would like some adivce and it has taken me quite awhile to get to this point and I hope to do it correctly and as best I can. Please HeLP!!!!

When I hand quilted, I always started in the middle and worked outward, kind of in a circle all the way to the edges.

I have been quilting for quite a few years. I am mother of 5 children and grandmother of 10. I live in a country style house that is 150 years old and just love it. Love reading all your entries and appreciate the sharing.

Welcome to the group, JuneBea!

When I took a class on handquilting, I was taught to baste everything securely down, then start in the middle with my frame. Once the middle is quilted work out from the center to each of the four corners - one at a time. Once that is done fill in the four corners.

What size quilt are you hand quilting? If you are doing twin size or larger and have it on a big frame, the process would be from the middle to each side, then work your way through that section completely before moving the frame to do another area.

Thank you so much for your reply. That is what I thought. It is a large quilt and on a large frame. I had thought of starting at the bottom and work up but then remembered I usually start smaller ones in the middle so I was not sure. This is my Dear Jane quilt and it took 2 yrs to piece it so I want it to be the best I can do. I really appreciate your quick reply. June

Hello, welcome and happy quilting from Germany! How nice to have another hand quilter here!

I work in a hoop - therefore I always start to quilt in the middle and work towards the edges.
