I love the look of scrap quilts but have a hard time because I think everything should be "matchy". I did, however, make one and the only way I could make it work was to cut my squares up, sort them by lights, meds, and darks, and put them into paper bags and just "grab" them as I pieced them together. No plan and it turned out awesome! Good luck!

Welcome Sundayp. On scrap quilts....my feeling is that while two or three fabrics might not go together well, a thousand will live quite happily together. A must for me is one fabric that will pull all those disparate fabs together. This can be the background or borders. What has been posted about light dark and medium is right on. Squint your eyes up and step back a bit to see if the contrast is right. Remember others will be viewing your quilt from about three feet away while you are only inches from it. Distance helps give perspective.

Hi and welcome from California. I was taught to put all the scraps in a bin and what ever you pull out is the next fabric you use. Takes the stress out of it and in the end they turn out great. Only thing I ever changed was if I pulled a color the same as the last then I pulled a different one. How ever you do it just have fun
