Welcome Barbara, from Southern Calif.,USA. (near Disneyland) Congratulations on your degree. Huge accomplishment!! Lots of hard work and wonderful gift of a sewing machine from husband. Have fun shopping but I Recommend you visit a sewing shop that sells machines. They will usually match you up to an appropriate machine to meet your needs.

thank you all for your warm welcome!! I am so happy with my new machine, I love her already. I started by trying all the new presser foots I have never seen before! it's amazing and somethings are easier with the right accessories!
I'm going to "surf"(?) (navegar, leer) the board and search for begginers ideas.
besos!!

Welcome from northeast Arkansas. This site is a wealth of information. I have been sewing and quilting for over 40 years. I am not an expert by any means, but still I continue to learn better ways, quicker ways, easier ways to do things from this site. You will enjoy it.

for a machine, get one with a large throat space. the space in between the needle shaft and the right edge of the machine where your quilt will be pushed through. the larger the better. mine is six inches. nine inches is good but larger if you can get it is better. Welcome from Texas.
