I've been following this board for years and never thought I'd post. I'm more of a listener than a talker. But lately I've wanted to reply to questions and post some pictures, so here I am.

I'm kind of a beginner at quilting, but I'd like to do more. I also make doll clothes for the 3 girls of my 9 grandchildren.

This is my seventh year retired from teaching third grade. I still miss it. Sometimes I catch myself mentally planning lessons. LOL

HELLO!! Welcome from the west coast!!
I love to make doll clothes too!! They never out grow them, never go out of style, hardly ever get worn out, I could go on and on!!

Your sewing machine looks just like my mom's. What kind is it?

We lived in Lapeer and Metamora from 1964 to 1979.

My "new" vintage Singer is a Model 66, often called a red eye for the decals. It was manufactured in 1917. The cabinet is a parlor or drawing room model. It's in great shape, but I haven't tried sewing on it because I haven't got it home yet.

In Michigan when someone asks where a place is, you hold up your hand and point to the spot on the "mitten".

And if you're in the UP (upper peninsula), you hold your hand crosswise with the thumb facing up. Who needs maps? LOL

Hi and welcome! Quilting will help you get over the "need to teach" feeling. I'm a retired teacher too, and for the first few years I was really pining for my first grade classroom. It's been four years now, and I must say, this is the first year I didn't drool over the school supplies in the store:-) My focus now is fabric, fabric, fabric, and my next project!

I'm still drooling over school supplies. I bought 4 boxes of 24 crayons for 25 cents each. Now what am I going to do with them?

Poor baby! Maybe you can make some crayon batik fabric blocks:) After the first year of retirement, I went back as a sub. That lasted two years and now I'm over it:-)
