I'm from Red Oak, TX and have been sewing and quilting since I was in the 5th grade. I say quilting in that I love to piece the tops but have difficulties in quilting the quilts. I am in a wheelchair and it is very difficult for me to sandwich the quilts with the batting and backing and squareing it off. If anybody has any ideas to make it easier, please let me know. My husband and I collect Vintage Singer Machines. We have around 25 at the present with the large majority of them in working condition. My favorites are the Singer 15-91, 401A and the Featherweight 222K. We have 2 grandchildren with another on the way. I love sewing for the grandkids. My online name is Aggiequilter, but my first name is Patsy.

Hello and welcome from Ontario. Check out Sharon Schambler (sp?) site she has a method to sandwich and baste a quilt on the table using boards to hold everything straight and tight.

You should come on out. The fall is a nice time in Texas, but the very best time of the year is in the Spring when the wildflowers are out ( Late March thru April). After seeing that you just might decide to stay. The summers are hot though.

Howdy! We live not too terribly far from you (by Texas standards that is). And yes...the wildflowers are awesome aren't they?!
Welcome to the board. I'm actually a very newbie quilter (only on my second one) but am finding lots of useful information here and TONS of encouragement by just looking at everyone's beautiful creations! You might want to google quilting frames and see what you come up with. There are so many out there that are great and I think would be w/c accessible. If you have a local quilting group they might also be a good resource. I went to my first 2 weeks ago and found the women to be very friendly and willing to help with so much. If you need help just getting the layers together and up on a frame I bet someone would love to come over and help. Once it's all set up then you could quilt from your w/c. Happy quilting! |
Hi Patsy! Welcome from South Central Texas. I agree that the wildflowers are beautiful, but not the summer heat -- I am a displaced Yankee and miss the Springtime and Autumn.
Anyone going to the Houston Quilt show? |
Welcome from "on the road", which means Michigan at the moment. I am the mother of an Aggie (who might have a winning team some year soon). Raised in Houston area and just got back from spring at my parents enjoying the bluebonnet trail. Use it for my wallpaper when I need a little brightening up. You might try doing some quilt as you go blocks. Although they are made for machine quilting, I'm sure you can adapt them to your individual needs. Let me know how it goes. I'd be willing to try it, just hadn't thought of it til now. Being on the road I do a lot of hand quilting.

Hi and welcome to the board. My name is Patsy also, but I usually go by Pat. I currently live in AZ, but when my husband was on active duty (22.5 years) we lived in TX 3 different times. We are looking into perhaps moving to the Corpus Christi area in the future.

Hello and welcome from central Alabama.

A BIG hello from Abilene, TX!!!

Hello fron Dallas. I am a transplant(by choice!) and I love it here!! I really did not think that many people did quilting or sewing in Texas. Having a hard time finding any type of sewing/quilting shows on TV. Or even anyone that knows how to sew - much less quilt!!! But, I am teaching people about it as I meet them and they show interest in it!!!

Welcome from another Texan
Go to Sharon Schambers video on You Tube. I think it is about basting the quilt sandwich but it has her methood of putting the sandwich together. It makes it so easy and You could do it yourself. My friend spray bastes instead of thread basting which saves a lot of time. I did baste Sharon's way and found it really held well and was reasonably fast. |
Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D
