Hello and welcome, Henry. You've found a great group of friends here and this is a great place to have your questions answered. Glad you decided to join us.

At the moment I am working on a quilt that my grandmother started but was unable to finish before her eyesight got so bad that she can't see how to thread a needle anymore.
I just finished a small wall hanging for a friend, although one or two of the squares were a little off center. And my stitching still isn't as small and tight as I'd like for it to be. |
Thank you everyone!

SHOCKING!!! :P I was actually quite shocked the first time I showed up to a guild meeting and found that it was 99% women. They always thank me when I bring my husband along and even suggest that he join because he like doubles the testosterone in the room. LOL! He actually helps me with my work too. I do art quilts and he builds a kind of framework for the back. What I have found is that there seems to be a disconnect between the art world and the land of needle arts. I think it strange because I come from the art side of things and I didn't realize I was stepping into chick territory when I decided to take up fabric art. I WELCOME a new guy to the fold and please BRING A FEW FRIENDS! P.S. To all you chickis out there that don't think you're making "real" art because you're doing it in fabric ... I've seen some of the best art in my life since I got into this.

Hi Henry,
You should check out the magazine, Quilter's Home. The editor is Mark Lipinski. He has been quilting about 20 years and the magazine is great. In the Jan/Feb 2008 issue, there is mention of a men only chat room called QuiltGuy. Our quilt guys have been pretty quiet lately, so it's nice to have you join us. You should be warned though, quilting is very addictive! :D :D Welcome to the group! |
Welcome Henry! Wow we have a lot of quilters from North Carolina now! And I think we are up to 4 men who quilt too!
We have our own Guild Card here. You be sure to download yours and put your name on it! I laminated mine so it will last. You are going to love it here. Chats are fun, lots of praise and advise when you post something, and we even have the occasional class too! One day we WILL have a get-together (we hope.) :D |
Thank you so much! I actually do not know anymore guys that quilt. I was beginning to wonder if I was alone...lol...but it is good to know there are others out there. :)

I am going to the bookstore later today, I will look for the magazine. Thanks for the suggestion. I will also look online for that chat forum.

You can also look up Ricky Timms, quilt designer, and on our board, there are Steve, Tim, and there was a John who dropped into chat once. Haven't seen him for a while.
Who knows, there may be others lurking and they have never signed in or posted yet! |
