Thanks so much everyone! You all inspired me to look on youtube and bite the bullet and yesterday I bought an easy quilt kit to make a little lap quilt for my daughter. Guess what? I finished it last night!!!! YAY! It's not perfect and it doesn't have batting in the middle but it's a start. I can't wait to make another :) here is a pic.

You go Girl! Summerville is a great location. Oldest son graduated from The Citadel in 2005 and we love Folly Beach!

Hi there and welcome from Florida. That is exactly how I started, I didn't know how either. Read about it, do it. Pick something you think you can do. I didn't have this site when I started which should be a great help. I have also purchased quilting books. Anything that helps you learn is where to start. Right now I am cutting out blocks for a rag quilt. I am planning to teach my granddaughter how to make a rag quilt. Good luck. :):):)

welcome from wisconsin-the computer is an awesome place to learn-just pick up a piece of fabric and sew-don't have any expectations of greatness, just have fun :)

There are so many ways to do things. What is important is the basics. You can visit Marcia Hohn at her website Quilters Cashe. She has free on line lessons and they are easy to do. The good part is they are always at your finger tips. They have many patterns to tempt you. Do not forget the people on here are a lifeline in case there is something you need, to ask a question, etc. They are great.
