Hope I do not freak anyone out by joining the board. I have been admiring the handy work for a few weeks. I was going to wait until I had something to show but...I ain't done yet!

I started wanting to quilt as a way to relax and as some odd method for me to relate to simpler times. Got some 5" squares on ebay, did a border, did the backing and pinned the whole thing together this evening. I did this all by hand so I hope it holds as I never sewed before. I did do a running stitch.

Anyway...hi!

Howdy and welcome from Texas. Glad to have you with us. I think quilting should be just the trick for relaxing. Before I started quilting, I did a lot of needlepoint. My dh started needlepointing to relax. He even made a wall hanging for his office. He was quite proud to tell all the secretaries he'd made it himself. Of course, being Texas Tech grads, it was a TTU picture. Be sure and let us have a peek at your project(s).

Hello from Sunny Florida! Glad to see we've pulled another lurker to our ranks!

A finished quilt is always stronger than a single hand sewn block. Each layer lends it's own strength and of course it gets quilted all together. I am most protective of my finished tops because it's all that work without the "protective binding and the backing to seal it all in there!

Hi from Iowa, I know some men quilters, one gave me his opinion on fabric for my border. too bad the fabric i had laying there was the blocks of my quilt and i wanted something to go with them. You will really like us here.

k_jupiter 07-03-2008 07:08 PM

Hi,

Don't let these wimmin get to ya. We menfolk have already shown we can quilt with, if not the best of them, the next rank down. Look up some of my posts and you will see. Henry does some nice work, Steve does some intensely technical stuff. My stuff seems to be whimsical and technical at the same time. I have five tops finished and two totally completed, another 8 or 9 in the works.

And yes, we have nice stashes.

Flutters eyelashes at wimmin quilters,

tim in san jose

Welcome Bob,
I am not sure how many of us males are on the site. Would be interesting to work it out. My wife of 46 years has sewed on and off all her life. She got interested in quilting after we retired. She prefers to quilt than to sew clothing like she used to. My interest began thru embroidery and designing patterns to use as quilting. I resently did my first quilt thinking that straight stitching on a machine would be easy. Wheeeeew, it was more work than I realized. But it is a lot of fun. Designing quilts is probasbly more enjoyable. You have a lot to look forward to. Again welcome.
