Hello from Montreal
The ADD theme hits a chord with me too - seriously linked to multiple UFO! I like to quilt for causes, did a bicentennial church quilt, am struggling with blocks done for a Canadian Comfort and Remembrance Project quilt (online, amazing how many gorgeous different expressions are possible with one pattern and three set colours. I just got an assignment from Ina May Gaskin (Head Midwife, The Farm Tennessee of Spiritual Midwifery fame) for a 36 year old and her baby who both died at birth, see SafeMotherhood.org or search with all those words, the blocks are beautiful are set in long panels two blocks deep. ....and am designing a quilt against genital mutilations I call "Dawn on New Knowledge (across top frame of centrefold block), Celebrating Gentleness (on side frames of centrefold block)". Now if that isn't ADD headed for UFO I don't know what is!! Thanks for this forum! Maurene |

Hi and welcome from Texas. I'm dizzy just reading all you have going on. You must be a great multi-tasker! Glad you joined us.

Hi and welcome from the sunny state of Florida!!!
You have a lot going on, but sometimes it's better not to have idle hands. |
Blessings to you in Fla, the oil leak problem is constantly on my mind.
Maybe someone will design and start a quilt like Ina May is doing for the environment. I suggested it to my quilt guild here in Westmount but they are interested in other things tho we did do a quilt for the CCrQ project. A few years ago when I was knitting at a bus stop a lovely old man with a big Hungarian accent came up to me and said "Busy hands keep the devil away"! I thought that was so nice! Thanks for your post, take care, Maurene |
Thanks

Thanks!

Thanks! It is for me too, but Ina May's idea is so helpful I think it will eventually help keep other Mums and babies safer.
I decided on one of the 7 of 'Job's Tears' blocks and am doing it in some of my leftover student nurse uniform fabric - first year blue for the baby boy and senior year pink for the mum. They go into a large rectangle with their names and dates. One block is not too huge a job. I may try another but am having trouble locating the other 6 Job's Tears block patterns, must try Kansas City Star books, they'd all be there for sure! Maurene |
Thanks!

More of an ADD and UFO er - I manage to finish most things, but sometimes slowly!!

Those are great causes to quilt for (((HUGS))) |
Thanks, my kids now live in Ontario, and I worked for a while in the Sioux Lookout Zone in NW ON for Health Canada, it was a great experience!

Thanks, it feels good to know that having fun can do good for people that can't do it for themselves.

Thanks for your post, take care, Maurene[/quote] Hello and welcome from Perth, Western Australia. You certainly do have a lot of very worthy causes to quilt for. In regards to the quote above....my Nan used to say "Idle hands the devil's work make". So being busy is definitely a good thing. |
Was your Nan Eastern European too? The saying has a distinctive cultural ring to it, must look it up on the net.
This board has such a cozy and encouraging atmosphere - this afternoon I tried to work QuiltPro for the Job's Tears block, gave up and did the 8.5" and 5.5" blocks using a ruler and calculator. Odd measurements are easier to change in metric I found! Also picked up a UFO and did one 18" thread of hand quilting just now. I'll post them as soon as they're finished. Maybe I'll dig up the bicentennial quilt to post, I think most people would enjoy it. I'll have to figure out how. Thanks again for your post, Maurene |
Hello and welcome from SW Iowa. Glad to have you here.

Welcome from Ireland
|
Thank you, My name is almost Irish, but it is after two grandmothers MAUde and iRENE so spelled differently, but pronounced the same way.
Where in Ireland do you live? I see you've made a whole cathedral windows quilt - it looks beautiful. |
O, I see, County Meath. Not sure of my Irish geography so will look it up on GoogleMaps.
