Welcome from S.E. Texas! :)
|
Hello and welcome, from western Nevada!
|
I would try to use some of the same fabrics in each of the quilts, because I like the idea of everyone having a little piece of the other's quilt... they're all connected, not just by the person that made them, or by being related because they're family..everyone has the same pieces :)

I suggest 9 patch. 5" squares you cut. Sashing between them. Make 12 14" blocks per quilt. Quilt is a great throw, fits a twin size/covers the top of a queen with no drop down.
I make these for kids at church. Use 2 fabrics for the 9 patch, a light and a med or dark. Sashing can be same as the color for 4 of the 9 patches. A simple diaganol grid quilts it quickly and they all look different. Back can be pieced creatively or one piece depending on what you have in fabrics. Can make a top in one day. Takes me 2.5 hours to quilt on home machine. We do add binding. |
I think that is awesome! I have been doing lap size quilts as gifts for family and wanting to do charity quilts to help me with fmq, the easiest block I have found and I love it, is the Disapearing Nine Patch. By rearranging the blocks or colors you can make numerous quilts that look different but the same. I took some fabric I didn't care for and made one and after I finished it, everyone loved it, including myself. LOL So good luck and enjoy it. You can find it under tutorials.

What are the measurements of a "Lap Quilt".
You all are so amazing. I appreciate all the input and I'm taking it all to heart. Thank you so much for your encouragement. I am in the middle of moving to a new house. By August 15th I hope to be sewing up a storm and promise to keep you sweet ladies posted!! |
Most of the lap size quilts I do are roughly 60"x72", in between crib and twin size. Good luck with your move and quilting
