Hello and welcome from Japan!!!

Hi from Western Australia. Agree with all of the above - four patch or nine patch. Squares are much easier than triangles when you first start. Pick some great colours, and away you go. A really good book I have is the "The Singer Quilting Bible" which takes you through lots of basic blocks, from easy peasy to more complicated - all in easy steps.

Hi and welcome from SE Michigan! If you are a beginner quilter, I suggest a book by Nancy Zieman - "Quilt with Confidence" - it is available at JoAnn's. Or check out Quilterscache.com for free patterns

Welcome from Minnesota! :)

My first quilt was a Rail Fence. Yellow Brick Road and Take 5 are also good starter quilts.

Hi Cindy, welcome from So. Ca. You will learn lots here, I know I have.
A simple quilt would be same size squares sewen together. Depending on the size you want..say 4 12 inch across the top and 5 12 inch going down. Can sew them with a separating strip between each sq. or just sew the sqs. together.
