I am a new quilter and scared to death. A few years ago a made my son a quilt. I sewed the quilt top and then my mother-in-law came over and helped me do the binding, and set up everything, with the promise that she would come over and explain it all when we had more time. Right after Christmas I went and bought more fabric and started on a quilt for my daughter. The top has been done for 2 years and we still have not found time to get together. I hope it will happen soon. I love material and want to make quilts, table runners, wall hangings etc., but I am scared to death to try without someone guiding me through it. As far as I know there are no quilting classes near me, or quilters that are just dying to take on a newbie like me. I love looking enviously at all of your photos and hope to someday be able to post my own.

Welcome from Alabama, Heart of (cold today) Dixie! You can do this. I'm pretty much self-taught myself, and I know I probably don't do everything exactly right, but I do quilting for the pleasure it gives me doing it, and then enjoying the finished product. No show pieces for me! Just enjoy the process of learning. You'll find lots of good information here; I know I have.

Welcome from Oklahoma! Just dive into this board and do some searching for some of the things you are wanting to learn. Also get you a good book on Quilting. Worth their weight in gold. Be prepared to get addicted to this board! Just ask away, someone will give you all the answers you need! Besides, it's not nearly as hard as it looks, once you start understanding the process.

Hello Jamie!
Welcome from Minnesota!

Welcome from Florida! Try your local library to see if they have a current beginning quilting book - techniques have changed and it is easier now. Cut a placemat, sandwich it, baste it, quilt it, square it up and put the binding on - then you will understand the process and it won't be so intimidating. Unless your kids are teenagers they won't know that it isn't "perfect" (if for any reason it isn't exactly what you expected).

Welcome from MO. Maybe you could find someone locally that would quilt and bind it for you. That's what I did when I first started making quilts. Good luck. You can do it. I can't type today. Had to edit this 2 times.lol
